Policy and processes that enable honey export: a case study from India
India started exporting a small amount of honey in 1991-1992 and has now established itself as an important honey exporter to the world market. The quantity exported has increased substantially, and today India exports honey to 62 countries, including Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. This publication documents studies on the policy and processes that enabled India to export honey to the international market. It shows how India has adopted the policies, processes, standards, and guidelines of the Codex Alimentarius and the European Directive on honey. It also formulates recommendations that can be used by other countries of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region to gain access to the international honey export market.
