The study was conducted from November 1998 through October 2003. The Kole wetland is one of the largest and highly productive wetlands and it is one of the most threatened wetland in the state.

This study envisages the estimation of floral wealth of the sacred groves and its role in conservation. The study was conducted in sacred groves of coastal and lowland regions of Thrissur District of Kerala.

Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is characterized by a rich diversity of ethnomedicinal plants and a rich heritage of traditional medicine practices. The present study showed that 139 species of plants belonging to 51 different families were used in tribal medicine of this region. However, 27 per cent of medicinal plants of this region are under different categories of threat.
