The Department of Wild Life Reserve has begun the census of spotted tigers in Wild Life Reserves and Sanctuary across the country from Saturday.
In Parsa Wild Life Reserve, 12 elephants and 30 officials have been deployed for the task. They will count tigers through camera trapping or directly visiting the tigers' nesting places.

Three persons, including a minor, died and dozens other fell sick due to an outbreak of diarrhea in a Chepang settlement in Makwanpur district within the past few days, reports said.
Thaila Chepang, 70, Kanchha Chepang, 20, and five-year-old Bhamu Chepang of Bharta VDC died after suffering from a serious bout of diarrhea that spread in the settlement since Thursday.

The World Bank (WB) today approved USD 36 million aid package for Nepal to support its efforts at reducing hardships and speeding up recovery from the problems caused by rising food and fuel prices, drought and recent floods.

Floods and landslides triggered by torrential monsoon rainfall in the last two days have killed over two dozen people in far-western districts.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) has announced the release of an additional $800,000 as relief funds to the recent flood victims at Sunsari and Saptari districts of Nepal.

Nepal and India decided on Tuesday to establish a number of mechanisms, including a minister-level Joint River Committee, to avert floods like the one caused by Koshi River, in future.

Minister for Physical Planning & Works Bijay Kumar Gachhadar said Friday that the spurs damaged by Saptakoshi floods will be restored before the end of the Nepali Calendar - meaning another 7 months - and that repair works are a top priority.
"The repair work on the Koshi embankment has already started," he said speaking at the Reporters Club.

Five persons displaced by the floods caused by breach in the Saptakoshi embankment and living in Koshi Barrage camp have died after suffering from a serious bout of diarrhea in the past 24 hours. One of the deceased is an Indian national who was taking shelter at the camp.

At least five persons were killed in separate incidents of landslides in Tanahun district, Saturday.
Reports quoted police as saying that three persons died after landslide in Chokchissapani VDC-9 swept away the house belonging to Nanda Prasad Joshi.
The deceased have been identified as Joshi's wife Sabitri, his 13-year-old son Shanker and neighbor Suman Luintel.
Likewise, landslides in Barbhanjyang VDC-8 claimed the lives of two persons -Deu Kumari BK, 63 and her daughter Chija, 27. Their bodies were found buried deep in mud. Three persons were also injured in the incident.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has announced it is mobilising emergency food assistance for 50,000 people displaced by floods in the eastern Terai districts.
"The emergency operation is in response to a Government of Nepal request after monsoon rains caused an embankment of the Saptakoshi River to collapse, flooding thousands of hectares of land and forcing an estimated 50,000 people to flee their homes," the WFP statement reads.
