Aizawl: Veterinary officials have identified the disease that killed about 100 pigs in Kolasib district of Mizoram over the last few days as 'Swine Fever', and not the dreaded Swine Flu of the H1N1 virus. ''Swine fever was first detected in Mizoram in 1980. A number of pigs have fallen prey to this disease. It should not be mistaken with the dreaded H1N1 virus.

SHILLONG: As many as 257 people, 14 of them confirmed, have died of suspected meningococcal meningitis in the State since last year amid government efforts to contain the killer disease.

NEW DELHI: Facing stiff opposition from the local people, the Ministry of Water Resources is toying with the idea of shifting the famous Pagladiya Project in Assam to upper reaches, near Bhutan.

This was discussed between the Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent Pala and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here on Wednesday. The river originates in Bhutan and flows through Assam.

Guwahati: Forest and wildlife personnel in Assam on Sunday apprehended two of the poachers involved in killing of a rhino at Orang National Park on Saturday along with arms and ammunition from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district. Orang National Park Director S Momin informed that two other poachers were absconding along with the rhino horn.
