A report on Smart Urban Mobility. commissioned by the IRU initiated All India Smart Move High Level Group and produced by the Institute of Urban Transport, has laid out clear recommendations to create a sustainable, integrated transport system for India.

The toolkit has been prepared jointly by the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT) India, a team of researchers and consultants from premier institutions in India, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and UNEP DTU Partnership.The revision of the toolkit has been carried out under the advice of MoUD.

The Government of India has formulated a National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), 2006 which seeks to work out an approach for dealing with the rapidly growing problem of Urban Transport as also to offer a clear direction and framework for future action in the area of Urban Transport.
