STOCKHOLM: Paul Krugman, the Princeton University scholar and New York Times columnist, won the Nobel prize in economics on Monday for his analysis of how economies of scale can affect trade patterns and the location of economic activity.

CHENNAI: Indian corporates need to be held accountable to society, rather than their shareholders alone, in order to improve their environmental and societal bottom lines, according to B. Muthuraman, managing director of Tata Steel.

Hyderabad, Sept. 10: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy has been selected for the prestigious "leadership award as best performing state in agriculture."

The Agriculture Leadership Awards Committee chose Andhra Pradesh for its excellent progress in the field of agriculture. The award will be conferred on the state at a ceremony in New Delhi on September 19.

Dr A.R. Kidwai, Governor of Haryana and chairperson of the awards committee informed this through a letter to the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

PALAKKAD: The grama panchayats in various districts of the state which execute afforestation and soil and water conservation schemes in an exemplary manner by including it under the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (NREGS) will be given awards, according to Finance Minister Thomas Isaac.
