Bangalore: With a view to saving farmers from resorting to distress sale of paddy, owing to slump in prices, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said the Government will release Rs. 80 crore from the revolving fund and purchase paddy in Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Davangere, Shimoga and Yadgir districts.

With the Survey of India finding discrepancies in mining operations by Reddy brothers in Bellary forest area, the Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on the fate of future mining activity till final demarcation of mining boundaries is undertaken.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday directed the Forest Department to stop illegal mining in the forest land, in the wake of the Supreme Court-appointed committee finding discrepancies in mining lease sketches in Bellary reserve forest area.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on permitting Karnataka ministers G Janardhana Reddy and G Karunakara Reddy to carry on mining in the three mines owned by their Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) at Ananthapur adjoining the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border.

In what can deal a major blow to the mining business of the Reddy brothers, two of whom are Cabinet ministers in Karnataka, the Survey of India has recommended that the Andhra Pradesh government should redraw the leases of all their four mines, and continue with the ban on their mining activities until the demarcation is complete.

New Delhi: Considering the major discrepancies in the lease sketches of six Obulapuram mines, including three belonging to the Reddy brothers in the Bellary Reserved Forest Area, the Survey of India (SoI) has told the Supreme Court that the entire lease sketches should be reviewed and no mining allowed during the demarcation work.
