Hyderabad, April 12: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Survey of India to complete by April 22 its survey of the mining areas in Anantapur district leased out to the Obulapuram Mining Company, owned by the Karnataka minister, Mr Gali Janardhan Reddy.

Apex Court Asks Survey Of India To Probe Allegations Of Encroachment

THE Supreme Court has extended the stay on mining activities by the Reddy Brothers in Andhra Pradesh. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishanan and Justice Deepak Verma also directed the Survey of India (SoI) to probe allegations of encroachment in two mines owned by the Reddys and submit a report by April 22.

THINGS HAVE got more tense in Bellary, the hub of illegal mining in Karnataka. On March 29, a gang of eight attacked those mine owners who had filed a case in the Supreme Court on the illegal mining done by the company owned by Janardhana Reddy, the Karnataka Tourism Minister.

The State Government has taken up survey of land with modern equipment in Bellary, Mysore, Hubli, Dharwad and Shimoga districts on a pilot basis. The survey would rectify the anomalies in land records.
