The applicant, Sudheer Kumar has alleged that the miners are engaged in mining beyond the area permitted under the concerned permissions/sanctions/NOCs/Environmental Clearance and in transportation of mined mineral, due precaution is not being observed causing huge dust and thereby causing air pollution.

Bombay Environmental Action Group, the petitioner has challenged the judgment of the Bombay High Court, whereby Prism Johnson Ltd was permitted to cut 12575 mangrove spanning approximately 5.03 hectares in the ecologically sensitive area covered within Coastal Regulation Zone in the Raigad district.

Proceedings were initiated in the matter suo-motu on the basis of a media report to the effect that two workers died and two were injured on account of blast at M/s Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh (JSPL). The incident took place on June 10, 2020.

The matter related to M/s Singhal Enterprises, Taraimal, Raigarh and its ownership of the land including diversion of land. The unit claimed the land of about 137 hectares has been owned by the company since 2000. However, the Joint Committee report said that 51.470 hectares of land (38%) is owned by the company and the rest 68% land is owned by other people.
