BERHAMPUR: In a bid to provide health service at doorsteps, measures have been initiated to provide telemedicine service in 10 districts. The service is being provided at MKCG Medical for last six years, but it was confined only to doctors who are using it to consult experts in the country and outside.

BERHAMPUR: With Bhopal gas leak case fresh in mind, panic gripped Berhampur on Monday after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder at a Public Health department store. At least 50 persons were affected and 35 treated in hospital.

The leak was stopped by a team of experts from Jayshree Chemicals, which supplies chlorine to Ganjam town for water purification, after eight hours.

BERHAMPUR: It was an ecstatic moment for the Olive Ridley conservationists as around 70,000 newborn Olive Ridley turtles crawled into the sea in the early hours of today a t t h e R u s h i k u l y a rookery.

BERHAMPUR: Fears of an eco-disaster loomed large after around 20 carcasses of Olive Ridley turtles were found at different places from Purunabandha to Prayagi on the stretch of Gopalpur beach on Friday. While environmentalists attributed the turtle deaths to oil spill, a senior Forest official dismissed the claim.

On Sunday night over 5,000 Olive Ridleys came out of the sea to lay their eggs, hinting at the possibility that mass nesting of the turtles on the coast is likely to be more during this season.

BHUBANESWAR: State Government has decided to spend Rs 30 crore to improve the water supply system in Berhampur town.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today. Longterm and short-term action plan for supplying water to the city were discussed at the meeting.
