BHAWANIPATNA: Negligence on the part of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to preserve the remnants of Asurgarh in Kalahandi district has triggered widespread resentment among history-lovers and intellectuals. Asurgarh, an ancient metropolis, is considered contemporaneous to Ujjain, Ahichatra, Kosambi, Sisupalagarh and other ancient Indian cities, but it remains unexcavated.

BHAWANIPATNA: A four-member Central team today toured Kalahandi to assess the quantum of crop loss. The team, led by YS Sharma, conducted a field survey and visited Bhatipada, Kodobhata, Kuliapali, Mahaling, Makraguda and Bordi villages under Kuhura and Mahaling gram panchayats of Golamunda block and interacted with farmers.

BHAWANIPATNA: Short supply of certified seeds has hit cultivation of pulses and oilseeds in Kalahandi. After farmers incurred heavy loss in the last kharif season due to moisture-stress condition, the Agriculture Department decided to give priority to cultivation of pulses and oilseeds in the current rabi season considering the favourable climatic conditions.
