Water cess in the State capital has been increased from the existing Rs 60 to Rs 180 per month. The proposal in this regard was passed in the general council meet of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) held here on Tuesday.

At the time when there is so much discussion about conserving the lakes of the city and removing pollution, a recent study has shown that plants like normal Water Hyacinth and Eichhornia Crassipes function like natural water purifiers and remove heavy metals, nitrates and phosphorous from the lakes.

Mercury is on the rise in most Madhya Pradesh districts with the day temperature reaching 40 degrees celsius.

The districts of Satna, Rewa and Gwalior recorded temperature of 40 degrees which was seven to eight degrees above normal during the past 24 hours. Similar rise in temperature was recorded in Jabalpur, Sagar Unjjain and Chambal divisions.

On the occasion of World Water Day, Urban Administration and Development Minister Babulal Gaur has said that Rs 10 crore will be spent on cleaning of rivers, reservoirs and lakes in and around cities in the state. These include all the 14 lakes of Bhopal, Kshipra river at Ujjain and reservoir of Sagar on which Rs 50 lakh each will be spent.

Specialist of ecology of rivers Michael Barber has said that the rivers could not be kept healthy if we ignore the chief reasons behind the pollution in rivers. He further added that the pollution should be seen in the context of the entire basin of the rivers, without considering it the pollution of the rivers could not be ameliorated.
