KRISHNAGIRI: Owing to heavy rain in Karnataka, excess water from KR Sagar, Kabini was being let into Cauvery river raising its water level in Hogennakkal.

An inflow of 5,536 mcft water from Krishnaraja Sagar Dam, 700 mcft of water from Kabini and 7,906 mcft of water due to heavy rain in catchment areas of Biligundu had been recorded.

A flood alert was sounded along the banks of Cauvery river and bathing banned in the famous tourist spot of Hogenakkal waterfall in the district on Wednesday following release of surplus water from dams in neighbouring Karnataka into the inter-state river.

THE Thamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam has demanded the closure of all dyeing units along the Noyyal, Cauvery and Bavani rivers and the Kalingarayan canal to protect farm lands from pollution.
