Submission by the Additional Director, Industrial Safety & Health, Pune regarding fire in a chemical factory in Pune, killing 18 dated 15/06/2021.

The factory, M/s SVS Aqua Technologies LLP in Uravade, taluka Mulshi, district Pune made an application for grant of licence under Factories act 1948 on March 4, 2021. But it was learnt that the factory was operational for the last 2 to 3 years.

Report filed by the District Magistrate, Pune regarding Suo Moto matter in O.A. No. 130 of 2021 on the death of 18 people, mostly women, in a fire at a chemical factory in village Urawade, taluka Mulshi, district Pune, Maharashtra on June 7, 2021. 

This report aims at providing an overview of the challenge that chemicals of concern pose in the context of products relevant for the building and construction sector.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shankarlal Prajapat Vs State of Madhya Pradesh dated 07/04/2021 regarding pollution caused by M/s Grasim Chemical Division Limited, Birlagram, Nagada, district Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, causing contamination of water and damage to the environment and public health.

The matter was last considered on October 12, 2020 in the light of the report of the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board  acknowledging discharge of polluted effluents by the industries in question in Chambal river through a drain which was required to be remedied.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Dastak Vs Synochem Organics Pvt. Ltd. & Others dated 09/12/2020. This application seeks quashing of the order of state of Haryana dated November 10, 2020 allowing manufacturers of formaldehyde, requiring prior Environmental Clearance, to operate for six months without EC, subject to making application for EC within 60 days. The applicant submits that requirement of prior EC is mandatory. There is no jurisdiction with the state to exempt the same.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shankarlal Prajapat Vs State of Madhya Pradesh dated 11/09/2020. The Court vide order dated October 30, 2019 had sought a report from the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) on the allegation of pollution caused by M/s Grasim Chemical Division Limited, Birlagram, Nagada, District Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. It was said that, there was contamination of water and damage to the environment and the public health.

Reply filed by M/s Shakti Bioscience Ltd. on the massive fire at its chemical factory in Gujarat's Valsad. The factory in its report said that the company had all the permissions and certificates to run the plant. The occurrence of fire at the plant was due to short-circuit and there were no negligence or lapses on the part of company in maintaining standards of procedure in the functioning of the plant.
