Residents in Kudremukh town and Jambale, Nellibeedu, Bandagal villages experienced mild earth tremors between 6.45 pm and 7 pm on Wednesday. The tremors lasted for three seconds.

An employee of Kudremukh Iron Ore Corporation Limited telephoned Deccan Herald office to convey the same. The town has experienced such tremors at least 23 times.

Two rogue tuskers have destroyed jowar and sunflower fields on Yagati road near Birur.

The rogue tuskers came from Arasikere on Thursday night and on Friday morning they were seen near Birur. At about 8 am, they entered the jowar field of Dogehalli Thimmarayappa and destroyed the farmland.

A sum of Rs 25 crore has been granted to Chikmagalur district by NABARD through non governmental organisations for the development of rural areas by implementing watershed project with the help of villagers, informed NABARD Assistant Executive Dr Diwakar Hegde.

Chief Whip in the State Assembly and MLA D N Jeevaraj had openly announced that the state government had not given permission for the setting up of mini hydro power projects in Chikmagalur.

Environmental organisations have said that medicinal herbs are being openly looted from Mullaiahnagiri, Bababudangiri, Kemmangundi and Chandrdrona hill range.

A press release from environmental activist G Veeresh said that the plants from these hill have been in great demand from time immemorial and hence district administration and forest department should take steps to conserve the same.
