The Madras High Court on Monday gave the green signal for implementation of GAIL India Ltd.’s natural gas pipeline project which is to pass through seven districts in the State.

Officials are gearing up for the conduct of a census by the National Tiger Conservation Authority scheduled to begin on December 16.

Field Director of Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Rajiv K. Srivasatava, told The Hindu that more than 400 people, including 180 forest staff, would be involved in the census works covering 958 sq km of forest area spread over Valparai, Manomboly, Udumalpet, Pollachi, and Amaravathy.

Ill-effects of open-air defecation explained

The Corporation has identified nine locations to install user-friendly ‘Namma toilets’. The tender process would be initiated soon, Corporation Commissioner M. Vijayalakshmi said. The identified locations are ideally suited for the toilets, she said.

The state government will build 'Namma toilets' on 385 locations across the state, as part of its initiative to provide safe sanitation to the people.

It is proving to be cost-effective, environment friendly.
