Kokrajhar, Aug. 25: Another person died of Japanese encephalitis here today, taking the toll to four.

KOKRAJHAR: The Japanese Encephalitis which has been spreading in a rapid manner has claimed the lives of seven people since July 13 in Kokrajhar district. Several patients have been admitted at RN Brahma Civil Hospital and many others have been referred to Bongaigaon for better treatment.

Encephalitis, which has assumed alarming proportions in different parts of Nalbari district has claimed seven lives within the last few days, an official source said.

Jorhat, Aug. 2: The veterinary department here has brought out a leaflet of dos and don’ts for people residing in areas where pigs are reared to prevent the spread of Japanese encephalitis.

Over 200 people have died across the State this year due to the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis. The organization took out a procession from Ganeshguri towards the Directorate of Health Services at Hengerabari with banners and shouting slogans.

GUWAHATI, July 29 – The number of people who have died of encephalitis in the State has shot up to 147. Of them, 44 died of confirmed Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

The health department has decided to propose a mass adult vaccination drive in Sivasagar district for everyone above 15 years to curb the spread of encephalitis.

The move comes in view of rising number of encephalitis cases in the district.

Vaccination below 15 years is already being done across the state.
