KOCHI: After Palakkad and Thrissur, it is the turn of Ernakulam to become a totally electrified district. The state government will declare Ernakulam district totally electrified on February 19.

Almost all the Assembly constituencies in the district have become totally electrified. As of now, there are around 14,000 households which are yet to be electrified.

The district is inching closer to the achievement of total sanitation with all its grama panchayats ensured of Nirmal Gram Puraskar instituted by the Union Ministry for Rural Development. The award is given for achievements in the field of sanitation.

Since its institution four years ago, the grama panchayats and block panchayats in the district have been winning the award one after another.

KOCHI: As a part of line doubling, the Railways has floated tenders to conduct soil testing on the Ernakulam-Kumbalam stretch, Railway sources said.

The agency to conduct soil testing will be selected this month itself.

KOCHI: Various developmental projects costing `4.53 crore will be taken up in the coastal areas of Ernakulam district, Fisheries Minister S Sarma has said.

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned an amount of Rs 40.12 crore from its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund to the state government.

The loan is intended for the implementation of the eight drainage and flood prevention projects in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kollam and Thrissur districts.
