DIBRUGARH, March 23: The entire garbage collection and disposal system in Dibrugarh is being overhauled.

The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) will not only have to stop dumping of garbage at Assagao plateau but will also have to immediately fence-- the whole dumping site.
The High Court directed MMC to appoint adequate number of chawkidars and guards within 48-hours guard at the site.

Until August 2005, Indira Colony was a veritable slum on the outskirts of Hoshiarpur, Punjab. An unplanned locality that came up in 1985 on the low-lying bed of a seasonal rivulet, it was perennially beset with squalid conditions, potholed streets, overflowing drains and garbage.

KARACHI, March 20: The city government has issued a legal notice to the Chinese contractor who was given the responsibility of collecting garbage across the city, saying that despite the passing of over a year since the signing of the initial contract no work has been done on the ground, Dawn has learnt.

Tightening its noose around contractors, who have been dumping silt and garbage on the bed of the Ranbir Canal,the state Irrigation Department has asked them to remove all silt and garbage from the canal before water is released into it in the next few weeks.

Hoteliers threaten to move High Court

The Panjim Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association today threatened to move the High Court against the Corporation of the City of Panaji as their garbage has been left unattended for over eight days.

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party MLC from Thane Jitendra Avhad could be penalised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under its cleanliness and sanitation bylaws 2006.

Ashish Shelar, BJP corporator of Mumbai, demanded that Avhad be punished as per the civic body's rule as he dumped a truckload of garbage at a public road near the BMC headquarters.
