Ranchi, March 31: Jharkhand High Court today directed the state government and Nagarjuna Constructions, a private company, to furnish a status report on laying of pipelines in Giridih for supply of drinking water.

A Delhi-based company, Urja Global Ltd (UGL), has expressed willingness to set up a 100MW capacity thermal power plant in the state with an environment friendly technology that will ensure zero carbon emission.

Executives of the company today called on the energy department officials to begin the process of signing an MoU with the state for setting up the plant.

Jamshedpur, Jan. 5: Jharkhand has recorded an increase in forest cover by 172 sqkm, a feat made possible by local villagers and, surprisingly, Maoists, whose presence deterred widespread tree felling that has been the norm in certain remote areas.

The order comes in the wake of recent trouble and a report submitted by the regional chief conservator of forest, Manraaj, in this regard. The directive sought to clear confusion over whether only mica mining was illegal.
