In a setback to NCC Limited, formerly Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited, the Sikkim government is believed to have cancelled the proposed Teesta-I hydel power project that was bagged by the company.

According to a senior official of the Sikkim government, the state home department has issued a notification cancelling the 280 MW power project. "The project was cancelled for two reasons. Firstly, continuous opposition from locals on the project and secondly, environmental issues.

The National Green Tribunal, under the aegis of ministry of environment and forests, on Wednesday cancelled the environmental clearances granted to the 2,640MW coal-fired power project of Nagarjuna

Earlier this year, sustained protests brought nationwide attention to the 2,640 MW thermal power plant proposed on precious wetlands in Sompeta in the coastal district of Srikakulam.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday suspended the operation of the Government Order allocating 972.69 acres of land alienated in favour of NCC Ltd (formerly Nagarjuna Construction Company Ltd) for setting up of a thermal power plant at Sompeta in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad/Sompeta: Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) on Tuesday said it is confident of reviving the controversial thermal power plant in Sompeta, Srikakulam, despite the National Environmental Appellate Authority (NEAA) quashing the clearance granted to the project.

Hyderabad: The National Environmental Appellate Authority (NEAA) on Thursday quashed the environmental clearance given to Nagarjuna Construction Company for setting up of a thermal power plant at Sompet, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. Further course of action is expected to be decided on the receipt of the certified copy of the judgement from the authorities.
