Water woes
This April is proving to be too cruel for Giridih.

First, the unbearable heat and now, an acute drinking water crisis looms large on the district with two of its water supply centres drying up, thanks to the sharp rise in temperature and the absence of rainfall.

Giridih, Feb. 23: India

Giridih (Jharkhand): The entire male population of a village numbering more than 350, including children, have deserted their homes in Jharkhand apprehending arrest by police in connection with cases of felling trees. They have been booked for destruction of forest and encroachment of forestland under the Forest Act, and some of the cases are a decade old.

The two-decade-old land controversy involving a project of the Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) in Giridih has reared its head again.

Giridih, Nov. 10: If records are anything to go by, implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in Giridih has been worse than expected.
