Golaghat, Sept. 5: Nur Hussain was 17 when his father Abul settled inside Rengma reserve forest in Golaghat district.

The five-member family from Dhubri district was among the few who had set up huts on the southern part of the reserve forest.

KHUMTAI, Aug 25 – Erosion in the northern bank of the river Dhansiri in Khumtai area is posing a grave threat to the farming community. The erosion seems to have started from the Haotoleyghat to Purani Kamargaon on the northern most boundary of the NRL plant.

GOLAGHAT: The Deopahar Reserved Forest near Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat district is presently reeling under heavy pollution due to dumping of plastic garbage.

It was recently observed that huge quantities of plastic garbage transported by several trucks had been dumped in the area. This move has threatened the conservation of flora and fauna in the reserve forest.

In what can be considered good news in the field of child care in Assam, the State Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has come down to 48 per thousand from the 65 per thousand in the year 2005.

Following the mass protest by the public of greater Dadhara under Dergaon PS,Missamara mouza and Dergaon revenue circle, the Golaghat district administration has stopped the work of setting up a coke industry which was started at Dadhara-Ahom agricultural field.

Though the change of course of a river is not a new phenomenon, the latest change of course of the mighty Brahmaputra has created a major concern. The mighty river is turning south and it will have an adverse effect on Kaziranga National Park along with Dergaon and Golaghat.

A rhino was killed by poachers today in the world famous Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in upper Assam's Golaghat district, making it the fourth such incident in the state in the past one month, forest officials said.
