The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday has given the State Government a three months time to complete the process of handing over the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th additions of the Kaziranga National Park (KNP)

Flash floods have destroyed paddy and vegetables in 14 villages in Titabar area which have been gobbled up by the waters of the swollen Kakodonga river since last week.

Over 30,000 people of 10 revenue circles in the three upper Assam districts of Dhemaji, Jorhat and Golaghat were affected by floods on Thursday.

Flooded rivers have submerged 80 more villages in Assam, taking the number of such villages to 300, and damaged roads and embankment in the state, officials said on Monday.

Over 25 villages were flooded in the district affecting thousands of people

Assam's flood situation remained critical today with 11 districts reeling under the water of the swollen Brahmaputra and its tributaries affecting over one lakh people.

The rain-fed mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above the danger level across Assam have hit nearly one lakh people inundating human habitations and farm land in ten districts.

GUWAHATI: Assam continues to reel under intense heat wave. Possibilities are high that the current spell of heat wave might continue till Friday or Saturday.

However, the death toll due to the heat wave has risen to 30. Most of the deaths were reported from Golaghat, Tezpur, Baksa, Rangia, Goalpara and Cachar districts of the State.

GUWAHATI: There are 731 brick kilns across the State. According to the Pollution Control Board (PCB), Assam till December 2012, 193 out of the 731 brick kilns were operating illegally and flouting environmental regulations.

According to PCB sources, the 193 brick kilns which have been set up illegally are flouting the guidelines mentioned in the Air (Pollution Control and Prevention) Act, 1981.

Mainly include four-laning of the existing NH-37 from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh in three parts

The Centre has approved road projects worth Rs. 1,932 crore for Assam, which mainly include four-laning of the existing National Highway 37 from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh in three parts. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given its approval for the four-laning of the Demow-Bogibeel junction section of National Highway-37 under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North Eastern Region (SARDP-NE) on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis in build-operate-transfer (BOT) (Annuity) mode of delivery.

GUWAHATI: Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS), an NGO, will start pilot projects for watershed management in Bokakhat and Dergaon of Golaghat district and Teok and Mariani in district.
