The environmental committee of the Sasthra Sahitya Parishad district committee has demanded the government to curb the increasing number of brick making units and unscientific granite mining in the district.

The Andhra Pradesh Government today announced a six-member high powered committee to inquire into the granite mishap at Chimakurthi in Prakasham district of the State which resulted in the death of about 14 workmen.

KOCHI: With river sand getting dearer due to scarcity and the government imposing stringent restrictions on its mining, granite powder is gaining more popularity.

Granite powder, which is otherwise known as MSand, is a good substitute for river sand and can help cut down the cost of construction considerably, said a source from Bharat Rock Powder, Manjapra, Angamali.

The Sindh government would soon initiate work for the promotion of small scale mining by employing latest practices in marble and granite mining. Sources told Business Recorder on Monday that a scheme was being introduced to improve mining practices in small scale mining sector at Sonda, district Jamshoro, and granite at Nagarparkar with a total cost of Rs 2,500 million.
