WHILE the proposed Indo-Sri Lanka ferry service between Thoothukudi-Colombo and Rameswaram-Talaimannar was given increased importance in terms of business and tourism related activities, the environmental aspect had taken a backseat, according to marine biologists and environmentalists.

RAMANATHAPURAM: Aruna Basu Sarcar, Chief Conservator of Forests and Director, Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust, said that placement of buoys demarcating the core zone of Gulf of Mannar was needed to control poaching in the protected areas.
