Ahmedabad : Eleven new cases of Hepatitis-B have been reported in Sabarkantha district in North Gujarat on Sunday. The total number of cases reported has now reached to 184. According to health officials, the death toll is 56 as no deaths were reported on Sunday.

VADODARA : In a case that has uncanny similarities with hepatitis B outbreak in Modasa, a 23-year-old woman took ill after taking an intravenous injection and drips about five months ago for diarrhoea and vomiting. The district health officials have filed a police complaint against the doctor on grounds that his credentials were questionable.

MUMBAI: The 43 deaths in Modasa town of Gujarat's Sabarkantha district over the last fortnight due to hepatitis B underlines how widespread this viral infection really is.

"It is one of the biggest public health challenges,'' said gastroenterologist Dr D N Amarapurkar of Bombay Hospital.
