HYDERABAD: A delegation of leaders of the TDP, CPI and CPI (M) called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah here on Sunday and submitted a memorandum seeking further action in the iron ore mining issue.

For over nearly two years now, Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar has been demanding that the Goa government should take action against illegal mining of iron ore. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has pointed out that close to one-third of the ore exported from Goa is from illegal mines.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has said that illegal mining in the State has not come to his notice and there is no need for ordering an inquiry into the issue.

Talking to media persons in Shiggaon in Haveri district on Thursday, the CM said he would look into the Lokayukta report on the issue and get a report from the Forest department on the complaints of illegal mining.

The CBI officials are reportedly collecting information from the Karnataka government in regard to illegal mining.

A team of officials of the investigating agency is said to have been camping in Bangalore for this purpose for the last few days.
The CBI is collecting information on investigations that were conducted in the State on illegal mining in the past.

Bangalore: Karnatka Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure G. Janardhana Reddy, whose Obulapuram Mining Companyhas come under the scanner for alleged illegal iron ore mining in Andhra Pradesh, said his firm had not stopped mining operations as it had not received a show-cause notice from the Andhra Government.

Mining operations in six areas leased out to mining companies, including Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by politically powerful Bellary Reddy brothers, came to a halt on Wednesday afternoon as the Andhra Pradesh Mines and Geology Department directed them to stop the activities with immediate effect.

Anantapur, Nov. 25: Mining and transport activity of iron ore of six mining companies in H Siddapuram, Obulapuram and Malpangudi villages in D Hirehal mandal, came to a halt as the Anantapur mines and geology assistant director, Mr S. Sairam Singh, reached the mining site and issued them government orders on Wednesday.

Hyderabad, Nov 25: The state government will partially implement the recommendations of the Central Empowered Committee on the controversial Obulapuram mines.

The government, which suspended mining activities in six mines and transportation of mined materials, will not appoint any committee as suggested by the CEC for fresh survey.
