DHENKANAL: The Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) yesterday rejected the request of Bhusan Steel Limited (BSL) to construct an ash pond in Nimidha village and asked it to go for afforestation around BSL to check pollution.

The vehicle fiber body manufacturing workshop, functioning opposite Government Bherulal Patidar College, is polluting the surroundings continuously. The harmful odor of chemicals keeps emanating from the workshop round-the-clock. The local residents are demanding action against the polluting unit.

Depleting groundwater levels have attained severe proportions in the city, and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is thinking green with a new plan up its sleeve.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided not to consider new development projects for Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Singrauli, Noida, Agra and Varanasi-Mirzapur for the next eight months following directions from the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF).

The Centre on Wednesday decided that it would not consider any development project proposed in the country's top 43 identified 'critically-polluted' industrial clusters and pending with it for an environment clearance for the next eight months.

The proposed system will put the onus on industries to adhere to the norms.

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has initiated strict action against half a dozen dyeing industrial units in Ludhiana, which are violating pollution control norms by burning municipal solid waste (MSW) and other unauthorised fuels. PPCB Member Secretary Dr Babu Ram said that on a tip-off, the team of PPCB officers conducted surprise checks of dyeing units situated along the Tajpur Road .

2 Gujarat clusters top the PCB pollution list.

Ankleshwar in Gujarat topped the list with a CEPI score of 88.5, followed by Vapi (88.09), Ghaziabad (87.37) and Chandrapur (83.88).

The Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI) of the Central Pollution Control Board has found that the Greater Cochin industrial cluster area is critically polluted.

Hyderabad, Jan. 3: Visakhapatnam overtook Patancheru and Bolarum as the most industrially polluted cluster in the state as per the Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (Cepi).
