People affected with A(H1N1) influenza will soon get treatment free of cost in the State. This was announced by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa after a review meeting on Saturday.

Fresh guidelines for managing patients of H1N1 swine flu virus, issued yesterday by the United Nations health body, lay stress on the selective use of anti-viral drugs oseltamivir (tamiflu) and zanamivir to prevent serious illness and deaths and reduce need for hospitalisation.

Aug. 22: Nine more cases of swine flu were reported in the state on Saturday, taking the count of H1N1 positive cases to 100.
According to the district medical and health officer, Dr Ch Jayakumari, nine of 36 cases which were referred to the Institute of Preventive Medicine tested positive.

The government is somewhat worried about the spread swine flu in the country as the number of infected people rose to 87 as of Wednesday.

"We are slightly worried with the jump in the identified swine flu cases as 13 new cases were confirmed on Wednesday," Health Minister Prof. AFM Ruhal Huque told reporters on Thursday after an inter-ministerial meeting at the Health Ministry.

Four more laboratories get the nod for testing
HEALTH Minister M R K Panneerselvam on Thursday said that the number of persons afflicted with swine flu in Tamil Nadu had gone up to 154 so far but the State government was leaving no stone unturned to check the spread of the disease. Of the 154 persons, 72 had returned home after treatment and the rest were under observation.

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday said Ayurveda and Unani interventions could be used for increasing the immunity to fight various flu-like conditions. These could be adopted by normal healthy persons as well as those with mild symptoms such as cold, cough and body pain.

COIMBATORE: Nine more persons have tested positive for A (H1N1) influenza in Coimbatore. These include seven girl students of a private school in the city.

Already three girls of this school had tested positive and were said to have been cured.

Of the other two positive results that arrived late on Wednesday, one was a 16-year-old boy and the other a four-year-old girl.

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government has invoked the 102-year old Epidemic Diseases Control Act, 1907, to fight swine flu.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has allowed 21 private hospitals in the state to treat swine flu cases, a senior government official said here today. So far, the death toll due to swine flu in Maharashtra has reached 19.
