PALANI: The Kerala government has been spreading false information on Mullaperiyar dam, according to G.K. Vasan, Union Minister for Shipping.

On the Mullaperiyar dam issue that is now before the Supreme Court, K. Subramanian, Senior Advocate and a former Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, has issued the following statement:

FISSURES and leakage in the more than a century old Mullaiperiyar dam are increasing with the rising of the water level. New cracks have also been detected in at least five spots, according to the findings of the Mullaiperiyar Spe cial Cell.

THE Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday has set up an expert panel to study the safety of the Mullaiperiyar dam following an increase in the leak on the 18th block of the dam.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said that a leakage had been detected in the 113-year-old dam.

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Sunday said that the Mullaperiyar issue was destined to be on the back-burner with the Supreme Court referring the issue to a Constitution Bench.
