CHENNAI: Opposition parties have come down heavily on the State government for its position on the Mullaperiyar dam issue.

THE State Cabinet on Tuesday discussed the Mullaiperiyar dam issue. During the meeting, the Cabinet had reportedly weighed the pros and cons of nominating a member to the committee appointed by the Supreme Court on the dam issue.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition of the Tamil Nadu government for recalling the top court order setting up a committee for examining the issues concerning its dispute with neighbouring Kerala on Mullaiperiyar dam.

Clearing the roadblocks for an amicable resolution of water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the century-old Mullaperiyar Dam, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain objections raised by the Tamil Nadu Government on allowing an expert committee to decide the issue of safety of the dam.
