IN a fresh twist to the Mul- laiperiyar dam row, Tamil Nadu on Monday told the Supreme Court that it was not interested in adjudicat- ing the dispute with Kerala before the special empow- ered committee appointed by the apex court for settling the inter-State issue.

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday moved the apex court seeking recall of a constitution bench "consent" order for setting up a five-member committee under former Chief Justice of India A.S.
Anand to examine the Mullaperiyar dam issues.

TIRUCHI: The River Protection Federation, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to nominate its member to the five-member committee headed by former Supreme Court Chief Justice A.S. Anand constituted by the Supreme Court on the Mullaperiyar dam issue recently.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Asserting that constructing a new dam across Mullaperiyar to replace the 113-year old existing structure was inevitable, Kerala Government today earmarked Rs ten crore in its budget for a detailed study for it.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala today said it is keen on having total control of the proposed new dam at Mullaperiyar, an issue over which the state and Tamil Nadu have locked horns for long.

DISMISSING the contention of opposition parties that the DMK government had compromised the rights of the State by allowing the constitution of a high-level committee to study the safety aspects of Mullaiperiyar dam, Chief Min- ister M Karunanidhi on Friday said that "nothing is lost now as the Tamil Nadu government has not compromised its rights''.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said here on Thursday that the State could advance its position in the Mullaperiyar case filed by Tamil Nadu before the Supreme Court.
