Jammu : Though swine flu has not assumed alarming proportion in the state, the government has decided to set up two testing laboratories in Jammu and Srinagar.

According to official sources, on the directions of Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Jammu too would have a testing lab for the H1N1 virus.

Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir has said the state suffered Rs 406 crore losses in agriculture and Rs 100 crore in horticulture due to the continued dry spell and unfair weather.

Addressing a meeting of agriculture ministers in New Delhi, Mir said major kharif crops like maize, pulses, vegetables, paddy, oil seeds etc had suffered considerable loss.

Jammu: The blood samples of five more persons having symptoms of suspected swine flu were airlifted today to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in New Delhi, taking the total number to 27 since July 10.

The low-cost agro-animal technologies developed by the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Leh, have found wide acceptance among farmers in Ladakh. Adoption of these technologies by farmers has not only boosted the availability of fresh food in that region but also helped in socio-economic uplift of the people there.
