Sterlite Energy Ltd (SEL), the energy arm of the London-based Vedanta Group, on Saturday commissioned the first unit of its 4x600 MW Independent Power Plant (IPP) at Jharsuguda, thus becoming the single largest power producer in private sector in the country.

SAMBALPUR: Closure of Orient Paper Mills (OPM) at Brajrajnagar proved bane for some and boon for others. The shutdown of OPM way back in 1999 left many people jobless, but it continues to benefit farmers with the Paper Mill Sludge (PMS) left behind by the mill helping farmers strike right pH balance. The use of PMS has helped the farmers which is also reflecting on the productivity.

Citing the Bhopal gas leak case, a prominent environmental organisation from Orissa on Wednesday demanded that compensation claims be filed against Tata Refractories for releasing poisonous chemicals outside their factory premises three years ago.

BHUBANESWAR: The single window committee chaired by Chief Secretary T.K Mishra today cleared nine projects worth Rs 4,920 crore including three cement projects in the Naxal-infested Malkangiri district.
