BHUBANESWAR/JHARSUGUDA: Meeting after the recent reverses of the party in the urban body polls, the State executive of the Congress resolved to take to the streets demanding Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the multi-crore mining scam.

As a part of its continuing effort to promote and inculcate health consciousness and well-being among the community people and plant personnel, the World Health Day was observed by the Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) at Jharsuguda.

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to promote floriculture in view of the growing demand for flowers in the market, the State Government today decided to increase the subsidy to 50 per cent from the present 33 per cent. The subsidy amount for small farmers will be 60 per cent.

This was decided at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Secretariat here.

The camp was aimed at treating and providing medical attention to inhabitants of the town besides an open invitation to all residents of peripheral villages.

This study analyses the diverse positive and negative impacts that coal mining has on the livelihoods of local communities of the Ib valley coalfield in Orissa. Using the sustainable livelihoods framework, it shows that coal mining, which is a form of physical capital, contributes to the enhancement of financial capital.
