NAVI MUMBAI: An environmentalist from the city has complained to the ministry of environment and forests that the proposed airport at Navi Mumbai received the environment clearance in 2010 as CIDCO

The chief conservator of forests of Thane circle, R.K. Pole, has withdrawn the forest clearance granted to the Navi Mumbai airport.

The clearance was granted on the grounds that the Navi Mumbai airport would be located more than ten km away from the Karnala bird sanctuary as has been laid out in the environmental clearance rules of the MoEF.

No threat seen to eco environment in Matheran hills or Karnala bird sanctuary.

Bird watchers and conservationists can heave a sigh of relief as the Centre has shot down a road-widening proposal that would have caused death of the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, some 60 km South-west of Mumbai.

Mumbai: Karnala bird sanctuary, some 60 km south-west of Mumbai, is on verge of being destroyed after the state wildlife board approved widening of national highway 17.

The board, which met after one and a half years on Friday, passed a resolution despite strong objection from some members.
