The species composition, dominance and regeneration status of tree species were studied in two blocks of Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve (AABR) namely [Block II (periphery) and Block I (interior)]. The tree density, sapling density and seedling density was higher in Block I as compared to Block II.

Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve in central India is endowed with rich floristic diversity with numerous ethno-medicinal plants of economic significance. These plants used in traditional indigenous system of treatment for various ailments by the tribal and non-tribal residents of the area, form the backbone of medicines prescribed by local practitioners like Kabirajs, Pahans Vaidrajs etc.

The Chhattisgarh state, in the heart of India, is very rich in biodiversity as well as in the forest cover. Forests of Chhattisgarh have a number of dye yielding plants which produce different colours. The tribal folks of this region locally use different colours obtained from plants for different purposes such as ornamentation, cosmetics, decorating houses and colouring home made utensils made up of mud. The present study was undertaken to assess the diversity of dye-yielding plants of Chhattisgarh, the indigenous method of dye extraction and ethnic uses of dyes.
