KOCHI: A developing city like Kochi still does not have a proper waste management system. Though a master plan is supposed to suggest concrete measures to tackle the garbage menace, the Kochi master plan hardly addresses this grave issue. The only portion that mention about the issue in the plan reads -

KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation is planning to set up a new solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram. As per the initial plan, the new plant will be set up on a raised land adjacent to the existing plant which is in a dilapidated condition. A team lead by Mayor Tony Chammany along with Health Standing Committee chairman T K Ashraf visited the plant the other day.

KOCHI: The district Health authority reported 40.1 per cent achievement of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) against filaria on Sunday. The drugs were administered to 12,36,730 people.

In a mop up round on Monday and Tuesday, after the house-to-house distribution of the drugs on Sunday, offices in the city would be supplied with the drugs to give it to the people who were not covered at home.

KOCHI: A recent report by the McKinsey Global Institute states that by 2030, 70 percent of jobs in India would be created in cities, and about 5.9 crore Indians would live there. To provide enough housing and commercial space, it says, India must build the equivalent of the city of Chicago every year.
