The dam for the proposed Yaragol project continues to remain on paper. A decision is yet to be taken on the location of the dam for the ambitious project.

There seems to be no end to the miseries of mango growers this summer. Mango growers in Kolar and Chickaballapur districts are a worried lot.

Already battered by unseasonable rain and drop in flowering of mango trees, mango growers in Srinivaspur are now worried over borer menace to the crop. Farmers did not implement the suggestions by the Horticulture department to control the menace.

The district administration on Thursday resolved to take up development work worth Rs 20.37 cr under Karnataka Municipalities Reformation Programme.

The proposed project would be funded by World Bank and Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation and is aimed to the integrated development of the City.

Efforts are underway to implement the Bhoo Chetana Yojane in 10 hectares of land, where ragi is grown as the main crop.

As many as 236 villages in 13 districts of the State have been reeling under acute drinking water shortage. A sum of Rs 19 crore has been released to supply water through tankers to these villages.

The blazing summer in the district has seen a spurt in the sale of packaged water in the form of pouches which are the most common and cost-effective thirst-quenchers. But of late, consumers are becoming more concerned about the quality of water the pouches contain.

District in-charge Minister Arvind Limbavali has said that a blueprint would be prepared for the development of the district and work taken up accordingly.

This is the first time he is visiting the town after assuming charge as district in-charge minister. He began his visit by offering puja at the Anjaneyaswamy temple in Kondarajanahalli in the outskirts of the town.

Clear picture yet to emerge as most officials have been drafted for poll duty

The district administration has estimated the damage due to the recent heavy rains in the district at Rs 1.52 crore.

Heavy rains accompanied with gusting winds and hailstorm lashed the district for 12 days from April 13. The administration submitted its report to the government on April 27.

The whole of Madhya Pradesh is facing severe heat wave conditions. As a result the availability of potable water is on decline. This year the summer arrived a bit early and its severity has also been more. As a result there has been rapid vaporisation of water from different sources. Bhopal is blessed for having the upper lake which fulfils the drinking water needs of a part of the city.

'The hardworking people of undivided Kolar with efforts have given gold, silk and vegetables to the State. The government should implement permanent irrigation scheme for the benefit these people,' said Chikkaballapur MLA Bache Gowda.
