The Union Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) has recommended against filling the Maheshwar dam reservoir up to 154 metres since the project promoters, Shree Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporat

Shree Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporation (SMHPCL) here on Tuesday has accused the Narmada Bachao Andolan of misrepresenting the report of the MOEF's committee of experts on the filling of the water

A committee constituted by the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF), on the directive of the National Green Tribunal, has submitted its investigation report which categorically states t

Growth is happening faster than we ever imagined. Construction is booming and expansion is gobbling agricultural land

I travelled to two different cities in two different states last fortnight — Indore and Guwahati. I came back with images identified by common distinctions: piles of garbage and glitzy new shopping malls. Is this our vision of urban development? There is no question that cities are imploding; growth is happening faster than we ever imagined. Construction is booming and expansion is gobbling agricultural land.

Members of the Narmada Bachao Andolan has they said will file a petition seeking review of the recent order of the Green Tribunal directing the generation of 40-Mw electricity in the controversial Shri Maheshwar Hydel Power Project and permitting the filling of Maheshwar dam reservoir up to 154 meters.

Meanwhile, Bahtrat Heavy Electicals limited (BHEL) has stopped further supply of hydro-turbines to SMHPCL for its “non-payment” against three hydro-turbines of 40-Mw capacity each.

Convener of Narmada Bachao Andolan ( NBA) Alok Agrawal has said the dams on Narmada Valley are rendering thousands of tribals, farmers and poor people homeless and the State Government is not doing

The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) has alleged that the decision of the National Green Tribunal to permit raising the water level of the Narmada dam is based on the “false claims of the promoters” of

The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) has criticised the August 9 order of the National Green Tribunal, allowing the filling of the Maheshwar dam up to 154 metres and generation of 400 MW electricity from the dam.

Saying the order was given on a “completely erroneous basis,” the NBA said the tribunal “ignored the Central Electricity Authority’s opinion” that no electricity could be generated at 154 metres

Thousands of people affected by the Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Indira Sagar, Upper Beda and Man dams responded to a call by the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) and joined a protest march at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday to raise their voice against the state government decision to raise the water level in Omkares-hwar Dam up to 193 metres.

After the protest march, the people affected by the dams announced that they would start a “Jal Satyagrah” from July 16 against what they described as a “conspiracy” by the state government and the private company involved in the project to uproot the dam affected people without their rehabilitation or proper resettlement.

The war of words between the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) and Shree Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporation Ltd. (SMHPCL), the private company building the Maheshwar dam, has reached its peak with the NBA threatening to file a suit against the company for making “wild and defamatory” allegations.

“The SMHPCL has falsely stated that the petition in the National Green Tribunal was not filed by project oustees but by the office-bearers of the NBA. Both the petitioners are bona fide oustees affected by the Maheshwar and neither of them are office-bearers,” NBA leader Alok Agarwal told The Hindu .
