Surat: Use of pruning and plastic mulching technique in mango farming have brought very encouraging results in the last few years for the farmers who export their produce to Gulf countries.

Last few days the markets have been flooded by the Goan delight, Mancurad mangoes but mango traders are not a happy lot. This season, they have not able to earn expected returns for two reasons.
One, mango production has been less this year. There has been drop in the production almost by 40 per cent as weather turned truant during flowering period in January

Aurangabad: Farmers are lamenting the damage to their mango crops in various regions of Maharashtra due to hailstones and early rainfall.

Every year Aurangabad district exports around 70 tons of Kesar Mangoes to USA. But earlier this week, due to hailstorms and unexpected rainfall, the mangoes have been damaged, and developed holes and bruises.

Having average weight content of 480 grams it is considered to be of superior quality. Also, it has less fibre, said a scientist at ICAR.

Ahmedabad: The delectable Kesar mango may soon be property of Junagadh farmers and come with a quality control tag. Junagadh Agriculture University and Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) Ltd have applied for geographical indication (GI) status for Kesar mango grown in Junagadh, just like Darjeeling tea and basmati rice.

Malda: A hailstorm wreaked havoc in four blocks of Malda district last night, destroying ripening mangoes and damaging the boro crop.

The hailstorm left Sabera Bibi, 30, dead in a lightning strike at Mandi village near Vaisnabnagar. Her husband suffered severe burn injuries and was admitted to the Malda District Hospital.
