NEW DELHI: A three-day mango festival to celebrate the king of fruits in all its forms and varieties was inaugurated at Dilli Haat in Pitampura here by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday.
Buyers from Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar and Sri Lanka and farmers from various districts of Bengal as well as experts turned up at Mango Mahotsava 2009, held from June12 to 14.

Corporation conducted raids in all 10 zones and seized 100 kg of calcium carbide stones
CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Thursday seized around 300 kg of mangoes that were artificially ripened using calcium carbide. The fruits were destroyed.
Deputy Commissioner N Prabhakar has said that in the first week of this month, in a few taluks in the district due to rain and storm the farmers have suffered nearly Rs 98.40 lakh crops loss and Rs 2.70 lakh loss to property.
The district administration had conducted a survey in this regard.
