NEW DELHI: A three-day mango festival to celebrate the king of fruits in all its forms and varieties was inaugurated at Dilli Haat in Pitampura here by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday.

Buyers from Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar and Sri Lanka and farmers from various districts of Bengal as well as experts turned up at Mango Mahotsava 2009, held from June12 to 14.

More and more mango growers in the region are planting guava trees in their orchards due to a plethora of problem relating to mango cultivation.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Thursday seized around 300 kg of mangoes that were artificially ripened using calcium carbide. The fruits were destroyed.
