Trimex Inds to invest Rs 2,250 cr in ilmenite mining

Trimex Industries, part of the metals and minerals conglomerate Trimex group, today announced that it will commence ilmenite mining operations in the next two months at Srikurmam in Andhra Pradesh, where it plans to invest Rs 2,250 crore.

Hyderabad Oct. 16: The Union government granted reconnaissance permit to two companies for the mining of gold, diamond, iron, copper, lead, zinc and silver and other precious minerals. The Union ministry of mines informed the state government that it had permitted the Bengaluru-based Geo Mysore Service (India) Private Limited and the New Delhi-based M/s Premier Nickel Mines Pvt.

Karnataka mineral policy 2008 approved by the state cabinet recently.This new policy has 13 major objectives, including progressive features such as adoption of modern techniques in mining, transparency in granting mineral licences and emphasis on value addition.

Policing body finds 173 out of 199 mines violating rules

IN A shocking report that exposes flouting of environmental and social regulations by mining companies, Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) has found that 173 out of 199 mines inspected in August were violating rules.

Most of the violations of the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules (MCDR) under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act were due to noncompliance of mining plan.

THE jinxed National Mineral Policy (NMP) faces yet another delay as the ministry of mines has decided to obtain the views of states on the draft amendments to the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act. With states and the Centre differing on various proposals on amending the Act, sources said that implementation of the policy may get stalled for some more time.

VEDANTA Resources has decided to revamp its corporate structure by consolidating its metals operations into three verticals. Sterlite Industries would focus on copper and zinc, Vedanta Aluminium would deal with aluminium, and the third vertical would concentrate on iron ore.

The move will help simplify the corporate structure, cut costs and ensure fewer cross-holdings, while also providing dedicated teams for aluminium, iron ore and copper & zinc businesses.
