BHUBANESWAR: While the steel industry is reeling under the impact of the global meltdown, smallscale iron ore processing units of the State are facing a challenge of a different kind.

Although the iron ore processing units of Keonjhar district have been demanding assured supply of ore lumps at a reasonable rate, the Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) has been ignoring the SSIs.

Illegal sand mining racket busted, 3 held

Lokayukta police on Wednesday busted a major illegal sand mining racket, arrested three persons and recovered 18 trucks, five tractors, five JCB machines and 30 HP Pumps.

Seven teams comprising 50 officials, raided eight villages in Devanahalli taluk in Bangalore Rural district - Chikkagollahalli, Karahalli, Mayasandra, Tailagiri, Misakanahalli, Byadarahalli and Goodrich.

The economic contributions of U.S. mining, 2007

This analysis uses input-output analysis to examine the economic
contributions of U.S. mining in terms of output, employment, payroll, personal income and payroll taxes. For the purpose of this analysis, the U.S. mining includes the mining of coal, uranium, metal ores, stone quarrying, sand and gravel and other nonmetallic minerals. It excludes oil and natural gas extraction.
