On mechanism for compliance of green clearance

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Indian Institute of Sustainable Development Vs Union of India & Others dated 14/03/2019. The issue for consideration is the regulation of use of charcoal as raw material for the industry to avoid cutting of trees. The matter was decided by the Tribunal on 09.10.2017. The present proceedings are for execution of the said order.

The issue for consideration is the monitoring mechanism for compliance of conditions of environment clearance evolved by the Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). The Tribunal had directed MoEF&CC to furnish data in respect of mechanism to periodically monitor the compliance of environmental clearance conditions.
