Judgement of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Society for Preservation of Kasauli and its Environs Vs Bird’s View Resort & Others dated 30/05/2017 regarding unauthorized construction of hotels in close vicinity of Kasauli area in the State of Himachal Pradesh. It was brought before the notice of the court that there are instances where plans were sanctioned for a limited purpose but they have been flagrantly violated, for instance, where 7 rooms were sanctioned, 50 rooms have been constructed.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Court on its own motion Vs. State of Punjab dated 29/05/2017 regarding delay in Amritsar STP project. The affidavit filed by the Project Proponent as well as the State of Punjab states that that there are certain deficiencies which are still persisting in the functioning of the plant. Secondly, they are not able to take 100% sewage generated, for treatment of it in accordance with law.

NGT directs NCT, Delhi and all the four Municipal Corporations and Delhi Cantonment Board to be present before the Tribunal on the next date of hearing and inform the court their proposal for dealing with the dumps of waste lying in various corners of Delhi particularly at Bhalswa, Ghaziapur and Okhla.

Questions have been raised about methodology adopted in Swachh Survekshan Report 2017. Instead of encouraging sustainable practices like segregation at source and recycle and reuse, the survey seems to have rewarded cities that are focussing on collection of unsegregated waste and transporting it to landfills.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone, Chennai) in the matter of Sumathi Saet Vs Commissioner of Municipality Tiruvathipuram (Cheyyar) Municipality & Others dated 11/05/2017 regarding illegal dumping of municipal solid waste including hazardous waste in Survey No.1 of Murukathampoondi Village to an extent of 55 acres, Cheyyar Taluk, Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu. NGT disposes of this Application with the direction to the Thiruvathipuram Municipality not to dump the solid waste in the area concerned.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone, Chennai) in the matter of S.P.Surendranath Karthik Vs Thazhambur Village Panchayat & Others dated 11/05/2017 regarding illegal and wrongful dumping and burning of Municipal Solid Waste in Survey No.99 and 100 of Thazhambur Village, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu.

Urban India is now the world's third largest garbage generator. But the amount of waste generated is not as much of an issue as the fact that over 45 million tonnes (or 3 million trucks worth) of garbage is untreated and disposed of by municipal authorities each year in an unhygienic manner.
