Photographs submitted before NGT shows indiscriminate burning of waste. The photographs are showing the dumps of waste which are already much beyond the prescribed limit and are on fire. The gases emission visibly are highly polluting and dangerous to human health.

The Counsel for Sonepur Municipality submits that steps have been taken to declare the Sonepur Municipality as ‘plastic free zone’ but issuance of the final notification has been delayed due to the ongoing panchayat elections.

National Green Tribunal (Western Zone Bench, Pune) directed Mira Bhayendar Municipal Corporation in Mumbai to deposit Rs. 20/- crores in escrow account of Divisional Commissioner within two weeks to ensure that the proposed plant to treat the municipal solid waste is commissioned and operated within next eight months as stated by the Commissioner

The Petitioners Resident Welfare Association of Sukhdev Vihar, Jasola Vihar, and Ishwar Nagar had approached the High Court of Delhi by filing Public Interest Litigation under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying that the construction of the proposed Waste to Energy plant close to Okhla STP should be stopped.

NGT directed the Jammu & Kashmir Government that within one week it should bring complete and comprehensive action plan to ensure handing of municipal solid waste in accordance with Solid Waste Management Rules 2016. The State was entitled to have its opinion with regard to stakeholders who would establish Waste to Energy or Waste to Bio-methane and RDF to Power Plants.
