Panchkula: The claims of the district authorities to chalk out a long-term strategy to check fires in the forest areas have fallen flat with the onset of summer as fire incidents were reported from different parts of the district today.
While more than six hactares of forest was destroyed in two fire incidents at Morni and Kalka, three minor incidents were reported from the town only.
National Watershed Development Programme for Rainfed Areas (NWDPRA) was taken up in a Shivalik foot hill watershed of Haryana, namely, Raipur Rani in Haryana during the XI five year plan. The Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute, Research Centre Chandigarh conducted impact evaluation of the NWDPRA programme during 2005.

Minister of State for Forests and Environment Kiran Choudhry at a meeting of officials said mining contractors were being favoured by circumventing guidelines issued by the apex court.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Panchkula today, in an interim report submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, stated that illegal mining is still on in Panchkula without any check.
Chandigarh, September 19 The Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) has decided to set up air-conditioned agro malls for the sale of all kinds of agricultural based products, food products and other allied products at various places in the state. To be developed on the pattern of international supermarkets, two such malls have already been launched at Panchkula and Karnal.

With an aim to fulfill the dreams of the urban poor in the state to have their own house in the city, the Haryana Housing Board Authorities will construct about 50,000 dwelling units in the next three years. This was declared by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today, who was in Sector 20, Panchkula, to lay the foundation stone of a group housing scheme, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 67 crore. Hooda added that keeping in view the problem of the urban poor in the society, the Haryana Housing Board had reduced the prices of houses up to 15 to 20 per cent.
