IDUKKI: Kerala will submit a detailed project report to the Centre over the proposed construction of a new dam at Mullaperiyar in place of the existing structure within six months.

This was stated by N K Parameswaran Nair, convenor of the three-member Mullaperiyar cell recently set up by the state government, after visiting the spot today where the survey for the new dam had been completed.

KATTAPPANA: The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam fell to 135.5 ft on Wednesday as rain kept away and Tamil Nadu increased the discharge from the dam.

The Tamil Nadu Public Works Department on Monday claimed that there was no need for panic in Kerala even if the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam reached 142 feet. The water level permitted in the dam, as set by Kerala, is 136 feet.

The water level in the 113-year-old masonry dam at Mullaperiyar on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border remained just two points below the maximum permitted level of 136 feet escalating panic among the people living on the banks of River Periyar in Idukki district of Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: A team of experts deputed by Kerala government claimed to have detected leakages at three spots on the 113-year-old Mullaperiyar dam over which the state is locked in a dispute with Tamil Nadu.
